WEPF Rhino writes World Championships preview.

Once again the PFW welsh teams will embark on a trip to Blackpool with hope of lifting the world crown at the Fosters World Championships, to be held at the Imperial hotel, from Sunday 28th June to Friday 10th July 2009.

The men’s team is as strong as ever, and they will be looking to reach the final again after an impressive performance in the European Championships, narrowly losing out the England 8 – 7.

The team is a little bit stronger this year, and they have high hopes of lifting the crown.

In the singles event we have three seeded players through to the last 64, Russell Burgess, Tom Cousins, Paul Hawkins, and they will be looking to gain a place on SKY SPORTS with a quarter final position. The others will need to qualify from the remaining 192 players in the qualifiers..

Welsh Grand Prix Rhino writes Grand prix event 2 report

The second event of the season got underway at Potters bar, Cardiff, last weekend, and as usual there were plenty of surprise results. So we start with selected results from the early rounds

The first shock of the day was tour number 8 seed Jon Bushnell losing to tour 1 winner Jordan Shepherd 7 - 1. Josh Craze was next to fall as he lost 7 – 5 to Phil Hoskins. Antony Doble looked in good shape as he beat Oly Bale 7 – 4. Paul Hawkins then lost to Russell Burgess 7 – 5 in long tight battle.

At the last 16 stage number 1 ranked player Ben Davies lost 7 – 6 to Rob Chilton who is the current number 1 ranked player on the IPA PRO tour. Scott Jones lost 7 – 0 to Craig Marsh in quick fire time. Ryan John was playing well and took out the in form Nicky Griffiths 7 – 4. Tom Cousins put pay to Phil Hoskins run as he won 7 – 5. The only other shock was the defeat of tour 1 winner Jordan Shepherd as he lost 7 – 5 to Antony Doble.

WPA Tour The Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend saw the first event of the Welsh Open Tour for 2009 with the usual suspects lining up to pit themselves against one another over the course of Saturday and Sunday.

In Group 1 it was the two seeds, Simon Ward and Paul Day who came through to play for the quarter final place with Simon winning that encounter by 5 frames to 3.

Group 2 disappointingly saw 4 non-shows and also saw the No. 8 seed, Brian Sullivan lose in the final frame to the much improving Neil Davies from Cardiff. Neil went onto beat fellow Cardiff player Kev “the calendar” Davies but could not shake off Port Talbot’s Kieran Piper who won the deciding frame for the last 8 spot.

PPPO News Cuesport_TV writes The richest 8-ball pool tour on the UK and Irish calendars returns this weekend (8th-10th May) with event two of the 2008-09 CueSport TV £50,000 Pool Series. This time the event is being held in the amazing Louis Fitzgerald Hotel in Dublin, Ireland.

As the pinnacle of the Blackball pool game, these tournaments each carry a guaranteed £10,000 in prize money with the winner of each leg receiving £3,500. Simon Ward was the winner of event one, way back in October last year, when he defeated fellow Welshman Craig Marsh to win the top prize.

The Welsh players including former EBA World Champion Ben Davies, British Open Champion Tom Cousins as well as the aforementioned Simon Ward and Craig Marsh will be in attendance and as always will be tough to beat.

Another player looking to add to his list of titles is the 2009 EBA World Champion, Scott Ross. Scotsman, Ross lifted the World title in April this year and will be confident of gaining another accolade on the Blackball circuit.

CueSport TV will once again be showing all of the action from the final two days live and exclusive at http://www.CueSport.tv - it is completely free to view and to do so simply hit the Live Event link on the left hand side of the website.

Watch all of the action on the 9th and 10th May 2009 only on CueSport TV.
